Comeback Falls Just Short For Prospects

Did you know that Monday June 19th was the Prospects first Monday night game of the season? For most of us, just the thought of Monday makes us groan but after falling behind 5-0 the Prospects were oh so close to completing the comeback and sending RE/MAX Field fans home ecstatic. The final score would be 5-3 in favour of the Okotoks Dawgs.

Jordan Parranto was your starting pitcher for the Prospects, his second start of the season and third appearance overall. Much like Sunday’s loss to the Dawgs in Okotoks the 2nd inning was a problem point for our boys as the visitors put up 3 runs.  Parranto would settle in on the mound allowing only a walk in the third, retiring the Dawgs in order in the fourth and stranding two base runners in the 5th. The Dawgs would put runners on 2nd and 3rd base with no out in the top of the 6th and they would both score extending their lead to 5-0.

Cue the beginnings of the comeback in the bottom of the 6th. Jake Lanferman came up to the plate with the bases loaded and with a sharply hit ball to left field cleared the bases with a 3-RBI triple.

With the score still 5-3 Dawgs in the bottom of the 8th inning; Corey Jackson took the mound for the visitors. Jackson had gone four consecutive outings without allowing a run and that streak came as close as possible to being snapped by our Prospects. The Prospects loaded the bases and forced the Dawgs to go deeper into their bullpen just to get the final out of the inning and strand the runners.

Erik Sabrowski would extend his personal hitting streak to the 5-game plateau.

Play Of The Game: Jake Lanferman for the second consecutive game earns this honour. His 6th inning 3-RBI triple was a nice follow-up to his solo home run from last Saturday.

Player Of The Game: Relief pitcher Andrew Grieder entered the game in the 7th inning and wonderfully did his part in keeping the Prospects in line to complete the comeback. Three shutout innings allowing only three hits and striking three.
