After Back-to-Back Postponed Games, Prospects Win Streak Snapped

By Len Nunes

The Edmonton Prospects were on a 6-game win streak until Mother Nature intervened. Whether instinctively or intuitively, when things are going well you try to keep the same routine going. Superstitious or not, having games on Thursday July 19th and Friday July 20th postponed had to have messed with the team mojo. Traveling out to Okotoks Saturday night, the Dawgs defeated the Prospects 10-1. The Prospects will look to find their mojo again Sunday afternoon in the Seaman Stadium rematch versus the Dawgs.

Taran Oulton made his team leading 8th start of the season for the Prospects. Versus the Dawgs, Oulton earned a win on June 3rd and a loss on July 8th. After a clean first inning, the Dawgs were able to put up three runs in the bottom of the 2nd. Oulton cruised along relatively smoothly until the 6th inning when the Dawgs were able to put up 5 more runs.

The Prospects offence, which had scored 63 runs during the 6-game win streak, was held to only one run. In the top of the fourth inning Eric Crain hit his first triple of the season. Next batter up was Beaux Guilbeau and he brought home Crain with a sacrifice fly. Crain and Guilbeau combined for three of the four Prospects hits on the night.

Tony Olson had the other Prospect hit extending his personal hitting streak to 6 games. Olson also drew 2 walks making it 6 consecutive games where he had drew at least one free pass.

The Dawgs were able to score two runs against Prospects reliever Scott Gillespie in the 7th to make the score 10-1. Drew Scott came in to the 8th inning and retired the side in order.

Beaux Guilbeau earns the Player of the Game honours. His 7th inning double puts him on a 6-game personal hit streak. Guilbeau also collected the sole RBI.
